A Wet End to 2011.

The low pressure system we have been following for several days now will pass through the region today. Rain can be expected this afternoon and tonight. We may see some brief clearing tomorrow afternoon before another low arrives Monday. On Thursday another system passes close to us from the south, we could see snow changing to rain.

This morning we could see a flurry or a shower before the rain arrives this afternoon and lasts through the overnight hours. Expect around 30 mm. Environment Canada's Rainfall Warning remains in effect.. The high today near 9 dropping to 5 overnight.

Sunday, New Years Day, showers in the morning followed by some clearing in the afternoon, Temperature near 5 in the morning dropping to 2 in the afternoon.

For Monday, rain in the morning sunny breaks in the later afternoon. Morning high of 7 dropping to 4 in the afternoon. 5- 10 mm of rain.

On Tuesday, cloudy with sunny breaks and a chance of flurries  L 0 H 2.

Wednesday, cloudy with sunny breaks and a chance of flurries, cooler L -7 H -4.

Thursday snow changing to rain.

A Sunny Day Before More Rain

A ridge of high pressure to our west will give us sunny skies today and diminishing winds. On New Years Eve, a low pressure system from the Great Lakes will move across the region. Another low will cross the area on Monday with more rain. On Tuesday a low will pass by to our south.

For Today,  Sunny skies with a temperature of - 1.

Tonight as the low approaches we will see increasing cloud by dawn.Temperatures will fall to -6 before rising to 0 by morning.

Saturday we may see a flurry early before the rain moves in. Rain will be heavier in the afternoon and evening. Temperatures will rise to 9, and 15 - 20 mm of rain can be expected.

On Sunday cloudy with a peek of the sun possibly in the afternoon. Morning temperatures at 5 and falling to near 0 by evening.

Monday yet more rain with a low of -4 and a high of 8.

For Tuesday a chance of flurries in the morning. a low of -2 with temperatures falling to near -7 by evening.

On Wednesday mostly cloudy low -12  high of -5

And for Thursday maybe another system with a chance of snow or rain. L -6  H 0.

Clearing Skies but Windy and Cool

For those with outdoor plans for New Years Eve, you may want to pack an umbrella or find an indoor venue. We will be on yet another warm side of a system meaning rain.Rain is in the forecast for Monday as well. with the passing of Monday's system we could see the coldest air of the season flooding into the area come Tuesday and Wednesday.

For today, a few flurries will end this morning then clearing and a high of near -3. Continuing windy.

For Friday we will start out sunny then skies will cloud over ahead of the next approaching system.
L -6 H 0.

Saturday Rain. Possibly 15-20 mm. High 8 L -3

On Sunday Flurries in the morning with clearing in the afternoon. L -2 H 5.

Monday we have rain again L 3 H 8.

Tuesday Falling temperatures with a chance of flurries.

A Wet and Windy Afternoon

A low pressure system travelling through eastern Quebec will spread rain and wind into Halifax today. EC Rainfall Warnings remain in effect for the area. As the system moves away tonight any remaining rain will turn to flurries overnight as the temperature drops. Late Friday another system will cross the area. It will begin as snow before turning to rain overnight.. On Monday yet another system will pass by with more rain for Monday/Tuesday.

For today, rain will begin by mid morning. Expect 25 - 30 mm by the time it ends tonight. Winds will be out of the SE at 50 km gusting to 80 km. Temperatures will top out near 10.

Tonight Flurries with temperatures falling to -3.

On Thursday a chance of flurries in the morning then a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon.Continuing windy with gusts to 70 km. Temperatures steady near -3.

On Friday snow will develop late low of -5 high of -1 with temperatures rising overnight.

Saturday sees the snow turn to rain as temperatures rise to 5.

On Sunday a chance of flurries with a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon. L -3 H1

Monday/ Tuesday looks like rain.

Sunny Today Before a Wet and Windy Wednesday

This morning Halifax is waking up to sunny skies with temperatures ranging from -3 at the airport  to 0 along the coast.
 Today we will be under the influence of a high pressure system giving us a fine day before a low pressure system moves across northern NB tomorrow, giving us rain and wind. The sytem clears out for Thursday before another weak system passes by on Friday. However it is usually these weak ones we need to keep on eye on.

For today, we can expect Sunny skies with light winds and a high of 4.

Tonight clouds will increase with temperatures around 3.

For Wednesday, EC has issued a Rainfall Warning for Halifax. We can expect 30 mm of rain with strong SE winds of 50 km gusting to 80 km. Temperature should reach around 10.
With last weeks snow covering the storm sewers, flooding is a possibility.

Thursday has a mix of sun and cloud with a chance of flurries. L -1 H 1

And on Friday  flurries or showers. L-3 H 2.

The weekend doesn't look too bad now with next system not moving in until later Sunday.

As expected temperatures through out Halifax rose overnight with light snow giving less than 1 cm. At this hour temperaures range from -1 at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport to 2 along the coast.
Radar is showing spotty precipition through out the area with showers west of Halifax moving east.

For today we can continue to expect a chance of showers this morning, with a greater chance this afternoon. Today's high will be 5 with diminishing winds during the afternoon.

Tonight will be cloudy with a chance of flurries with temperatures falling back to -6.

On Tuesday as we hit the malls, we will have a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 4 .

The system we have been watching will affect us on Wednesday. Rain will begin in the morning and end in the evening. It will be windy as well. Expect 15 - 20 mm of rain with temperatures climbing to near 11.

Thursday will see a mix of sun and cloud and cooler  H 1 L-1.

Looks like a system will move in New Years Eve day with improving conditions New Years day.

The first week of 2012 looks to be Stormy. A great way to start the year for us weather enthusiasts!

A Pleasant Christmas Day

Merry Christmas Everyone!

As we awake this morning may the spirit of the day find us all.

At this hour through out metro we have mostly cloudy skies with temperatures cool ranging from -10 to -13 C.

The ridge of high pressure that was to our west yesterday, will move across the area today to be to our east this evening.
On Monday a low pressure system will move to our south, then on Wednesday a larger low that will move out of the Gulf states will pass through NB.

So for today, we can expect a mix of sun and cloud with a high of -6.
Tonight as the high moves to our east temperatures will rise to -2 by morning.

Monday will see a chance of Flurries or showers in the morning and early afternoon with a high of 3.

On Tuesday, we will see a mix of sun and cloud low of -2 high 4.

Wednesday with the low passing to our west we can expect rain. L 4 H 9.

Looking ahead to next weekend, the models are having issues with the speed of the next system moving in, so way too early to nail it down.

Cooler Today But Warming Up Next Week



Currently as of 7:00 am we are under cloudy skies with temperatures ranging from -2 to -4  around the HRM. Radar shows light snow/flurries in the valley and central NS. These may work their way down into our area in the next hour or so.

For today, a ridge of high pressure sits to our west it will bring in some cooler temperatures today with northerly winds gusting up to 40 km/hr with a chance of flurries. Temperatures will fall to -7.

Tonight we can expect clearing with a cool low of -10.

On Christmas Day the high pressure system will bring us generally sunny skies with a  high of -4.

The low pressure system that was to give us periods of snow on Monday is now expected to pass well to our south. Still a chance of flurries are in the forecast with a low of -4 and a high of  2.

Things go down hill from here.

On Tuesday skies will cloud over as temperatures rise as we will be in a southwesterly flow. High of 7 and a low of 5.

And on Wednesday a low pressure system will pass through NB giving us rain  and wind and mild temperatures. The rain could be heavy so stay tuned.

Friday December 23, 2011 Afternoon update.

After today's snow has gottten everyone into the Christmas spirit, what can we expect weather wise over the next couple of days.

As I write this just before 1 pm snow continues to fall and continues back to the western part of the province, and we can expect it to tapper off later this afternoon.

Overnight tonight flurries will linger around the region with a low of -4*C.

On Saturday clearing in the afternoon with falling temperatures so for those heading off to church Christmas Eve, dress warmly.

For Sunday, Christmas day we can expect a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures just below the freezing point.

On Monday another system moves in with either snow or rain, as we get closer to the day the models will give us a better picture of what to expect. Just be aware if travelling is in your plans.

Then Tuesday night into Wednesday we should be on the warm side of a system which will give us rain.

That's the way it looks now.
